Scarlet-White Game Highlights
The Rutgers Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has a full slate of events planned for Rutgers Day on Saturday, April 30. The action-packed day will conclude with the annual Scarlet-White Spring Football game inside Rutgers Stadium at 3 p.m. with an autograph session to follow.
Fans will be given free Rutgers drawstring bags and 2011 schedule posters while supplies last.
Action gets underway inside Rutgers Stadium beginning at noon as the Scarlet Knights will welcome back alumni now playing in the National Football League for an autograph session from 12-12:45 p.m.
Among the confirmed NFL Knights who will be in attendance signing autographs include Gary Brackett and Eric Foster of the Indianapolis Colts, Kevin Haslam and Tiquan Underwood of the Jacksonville Jaguars along with Ray Rice (Baltimore Ravens), Brian Leonard (Cincinnati Bengals), Jamaal Westerman (New York Jets), Devin McCourty (New England Patriots), Jason McCourty (Tennessee Titans), Jeremy Zuttah (Tampa Bay Buccaneers), Ryan D’Imperio (Minnesota Vikings) and Kevin Brock (Oakland Raiders). Additional players could be added to the day’s list of attendees.
The first annual “Believe Bowl” will begin at 1 p.m. inside Rutgers Stadium as two teams of former Rutgers Football letterwinners take the field for an exhibition flag-football game. Hopes are the “Believe Bowl” will raise awareness and support for Eric LeGrand and Rutgers Spinal Cord Research.
The current Scarlet Knights will take the field at 3 p.m. for the annual Scarlet-White game, followed by a post-game autograph session on the field.
While admission is free to the “Believe Bowl” and Scarlet-White game, fans are encouraged to donate to Rutgers Spinal Cord Research at the game.
More than 10 different athletic events are scheduled on the University’s Busch campus from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. as part of the full slate of activities the University is hosting on Rutgers Day.
From 10 a.m. through 2 p.m. on Scarlet Knight Way, RU will hold an equipment showcase where fans will have the opportunity to pick up and try on different equipment the student-athletes use during competition.
The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will host a mini combine on the University’s E athletic fields where children will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of skill events just like NFL prospects compete in during the NFL Combine. Each individual can test his or her skills and see where the stack up against the most elite college football players. The winners will be recognized at halftime of the “Believe Bowl.”
The SAAC will also sponsor a face painting booth and put on several children’s events along with interactive games. Events along with interactive games for children that are part of the Rutgers Kids’ Zone on Scarlet Knight Way will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
The Rutgers men’s soccer team will perform an exhibition contest against Lafayette on the Busch Campus Recreation fields, while several members of the men’s and women’s basketball teams will take part in a shoot-around outside the North Plaza of Rutgers Stadium beginning at 11 a.m.
