News from “On the Banks”

On Sunday, August 21, The Rutgers Glee Club and Glee Club Alumni got together for the Annual Alumni Barbecue at the Log Cabin in Rutgers Gardens.  Along with the good fellowship there was lots of singing by former and current Glee Clubbers.  The 2011 edition of the Club is fresh off a successful concert tour of Italy.

The Glee Club Alumni showed that they haven’t lost their voices…they acquitted themselves admirably in a sampling of Rutgers songs and other Glee Club repertoire.  A particularly strong showing was made by alumni who had sung with the legendary F. Austin “Soup” Walter, among whom was our own Roger Latzgo (RC ‘71, MGSA ‘76).

This year, the Rutgers Glee Club celebrates its 140th anniversary, truly a testament to the Rutgers adage “Ever changing, yet eternally the same”.  The signs are auspicious for a great season.  Brothers, sing on!

Rutgers Glee Club Alumni (from left) Pete Jensen (‘71), Chet Smith (‘72), Roger Latzgo (‘71) and Tom Clarke (‘71) return to the noisy college town for the annual Alumni Barbecue. During their Glee Club years, this group made concert tours to Europe (1968 and 1971) and the Caribbean (1969).
